SmackdownSyndrome win i40 HON Tournament

Mon 30 August at 11:13 with 2 Comments

HON

SmackdownSyndrome have just defeated team Quim in the final of the i40 HON tournament. In what was a fairly close encounter throughout, SmackdownSyndrome were able to use their more efficient carry farming to pull out the win over a determined team Quim.

Both teams went for a 3v1 tri-lane setup but as a result of some superior play by players such as Chronos in particular, SmackdownSyndrome held on for the victory.

After the game I caught up with Kaution from team Quim who felt that his teams lack of practice was a hindrance heading into the tournament, and noted that SmackdownSyndromes use of the valkyrie was especially important.

Congratulations to Smackdown Syndrome!

Dignitas PureBall wins i40 SC2 Tournament

Don’t call it an upset!

With hundreds of hungry StarCraft 2 fans surrounding the stage area and several thousand watching on the live stream, TotalBiscuit and Apollo brought you all of the action from the i40 SC2 tournament final.

The final was played as a best of 7 series, with Randy starting the match up with a 2-0 head start as a result of reaching the final via the upper bracket route. Speaking to him before the game Randy seemed very confident of his chances against Pureball. This was to prove an unfounded mindset however, with PureBall wrapping up the victory in convincing fashion in 4 straight maps to win 4-2.

If this kind of play and excitement is a sign of what’s to come in the future of SC2, then we have a lot to look forward as far as i-series SC2 tournaments are concerned.

Congratulations PureBall and better luck next time to Randy.

Demonic mix proved to be no larger hurdle for them than anyone had imagined, displaying cyborg like aiming and a hugely impressive level of teamwork Very were able to bring home the victory in an extremely comfortable fashion.

Congratulations to Very Games and a special mention to Demonic mix who should be very proud of their performance in the tournament.

TF2

In what was the loudest, closest and most exciting final that the stage has witnessed so far this event, Team Dignitas were victorious over Epsilon E-Sports in the TF2 final.

Over three maps of Granary, Gullywash and the decider of Badlands, Dignitas pulled off the victory in the face of some fierce opposition put up by Epsilon E-Sports.

Both teams showed great teamwork along with some sick individual frag skills, the two demomen in particular were extremely impressive! This final is going to be remembered for quite some time, with Epsilon E-Sports almost managing to push into the final point on the deciding map with only 20 seconds to do, the atmosphere in the exhibition hall was through the roof.
Congratulations to Dignitas who win yet another tournament here at i40. This has been a very successful event for them so far!

Thankyou to the TF2 community as a whole for providing us with the atmosphere that we saw, and for the spirit in which both teams played the match.

Facing off in the i40 COD4 tournament final were Dignitas and Watch and Learn. Dignitas reached the final after something of an unprecedented run of playing all their matches 4v5. Due to player issues they had only 4 players to compete against the 5 that Watch and Learn had to offer.

This however didn’t prove to be too much of a hurdle for Dignitas who eventually managed to take the victory in the final map, after Watch and Learn forced the match into double overtime.
There was some incredible play on show from members of both teams, with Robyye standing out in particular.

TI Monkey will once again be representing the UK at the WCG finals after overcoming the challenge of DMC on Guitar Hero 5.

Both players showed off their ridiculous levels of dexterity to “The Spirit of Radio” by Rush. With the music emanating from the speakers, TI Monkey was able to put together an entirely unbelievable streak of 1503 consecutive notes.

With an almost perfect display of controlled button mashing, Ryan Hart was able to defeat Grunt Dude in the Tekken 6 WCG UK Qualifier finals.

Playing as Kazuya, Ryan Hart defeated Grunt Dude’s Lili in 2 set victories of 3-1 and 3-0, the second of which featured a “Perfect”! Ryan Hart kept the crowd gathered by the stage area entertained with some awesome combos and well executed moves.

Well done to Ryan Hart and the best of luck in Los Angeles!

WCG Forza 3 UK Qualifier – Daveyskills Wins!

Sun 29 August at 12:34 with No Comments

He was the victor in a race against Strune from Dignitas in a 5 lap race on Circuit de Catalunya. Both racers were using the Peugeout 906 with Daveyskills being able to get the most out of the car and open up an early lead which he continued to build on throughout the race, eventually earning himself a fairly comfortable victory with a winning margin of around 2 seconds.

Congratulations Daveyskills and good luck in Los Angeles!

WCG Fifa 10 UK Qualifier – ChrissyB Wins!

Sun 29 August at 11:52 with No Comments

The final of the WCG UK Qualifier for Fifa10 on PC has just reached its conclusion with ChrissyB winning out over Classic with two victories of 5-4 and 6-2.

ChrissyB was the overwhelming favourite heading into the final and he didn’t disappoint, managing to hold on for the win against Classic, who pushed Chrissy all the way despite having two keepers sent off in the second match! Classic may feel a little hard done by with the referee deciding that his goalkeepers had committed sending off offences on two separate occasions.

This means of course that ChrissyB will be going to Los Angeles to fly the flag for the UK in the WCG finals.

Congratulations to ChrissyB and commiserations to Classic.

WCG Trackmania Nations UK Qualifier – Shaw Wins!

Sun 29 August at 11:28 with No Comments

This morning the stage played host to an extraordinarily exciting Trackmania Nations final with Shaw ending up victorious over a series of 4 maps.

Shaw took an early lead on the first map (classic) and managed to hold onto it for the remainder of the match, despite an absolutely epic comeback from Darky. Darky was able to win several rounds in a row with some textbook driving, enabling him to claw back what looked to be an insurmountable gap between himself and Shaw.

Shaw however managed to win the last 2 rounds on the final map (Alienskills) to claim his victory and with it his ticket to represent the UK in Los Angeles later this year.
Congratulations to Shaw and very well played to all 4 participants in the final, you really kept the crowd on the edges of their seats!

Final Scores :

Shaw – 121
Darky – 113
Xephyr – 75
Nemesis – 59

TF2 Tournament Final Day Schedule & STV’s

Sat 28 August at 22:08 with No Comments
Maps

Every event the TF2 community is calling out for more games to see and best of 3 rounds instead of the short lived single map elimination. This time round the questions and requests have been no different, only now we are going to accomodate the drooling masses!

The upper bracket final, lower bracket final, consolation final and grand final will all be played best of 3. The maps will be decided from the map pool via elimination apart from the grand final where the winner of the upper bracket will decide upon the first 2 maps as reward for battling through the upper level and not losing a game while the decider, if needed, will be chosen by the winner of the lower bracket final.

Sadly the only of the finals we have on the stage is the grand final due to the WCG. We will have the projector in the TF2 tent as well though.

11:00 :: Lower bracket round 5 & upper bracket final followed by lower bracket final
13:00 :: Consolation final
16:00 :: Grand final on stage

TF2 Knock-out Stages Begin + STV Details

Sat 28 August at 17:32 with No Comments

We have moved on from the usually quick group stages now and move into the double elimination knock-outs. The groups were faily uneventful apart from the awsome boys and girls of BoX? taking a round from 3rd seeded Epsilon Gaming and two of the Vertex teams duking it out into a golden cap for first and second place in their group.

Things start off nice and interestingly with cp_Well, a defensive map where the lower level teams can make a game of it against superior opponents and maybe we will see some early shocks!

Tune in to STV to keep up with the events as they happen:

Starcraft 2 Cup Supported by Razer

Fri 27 August at 16:23 with No Comments
Welcome to i40!

Welcome to the first major UK Starcraft 2 LAN Tournament, the Starcraft 2 Cup. There is still time to sign up to play, check the tournament matrix to see if you are eligible to play (if you want to play more then one tournament).

I will be giving out the details some time before signups close as to how to submit your character name and code so you can find each other to play your games. The match schedule will be released when the signups close at 13:00 Saturday. To play you need to look up your opponent 5 minutes before your game start time, and add them to your friends list and contact them. One of you must host a custom game and invite them to the game.

The settings should be as default: Melee, Faster, 1v1. Make sure the map is set to the current round as shown on the your matches screen. The only observers allowed are the tournament admins (Kharne, Daygore) or one of our official casters (Totalbiscuit, Apollo). You may recieve request from Totalbiscuit to spectate your game so he can shoutcast.

Some rules clarifications:

A single pause will only be allowed in unavoidable circumstances that prevent you from playing (minor hardware failure), and they can only last 5 minutes per player. Be careful to make sure the other player is ready for the unpause when you unpause. If you disconnect from the game due to your own hardware then you default that game to the other player. If there is a network failure or Battle.net failure the game needs to be replayed from the start of the current map.

After each game please save your demo (call it something like “i40vsOpponentOnMap” example “i40vsKharneLostTemple” so in the event of a conflict admins can check the demos. When you view the score screen the “Save Replay” button should be clear at the bottom of the screen. If you miss that then you can go into your replays menu within the game and choose to give the last 10 games a name, you can do the same thing here.

All other rules are located here so make sure you read and understand them.

Your Admins for this tournament are Kharne and Daygore (Seats G2-Z6 and G2-Z7), please come and see us or contact us in the irc channel #sc2.tournament and #sc2 on the INTERNAL irc network (the server address is simply “irc”). EVERYONE MUST BE IN THESE IRC CHANNELS IF THEY ARE STILL PLAYING IN THE TOURNAMENT! We need to be able to chase people down for no-shows etc. After 15 minutes from the start time if your opponenet is not available, contact an admin they will confirm and give the default win to you. Please name yourself with your multiplay username if possible so we can message you easily.

Thanks for playing and have some ggs!
Matt “Kharne” Macdonald

Thermaltake Counter Strike Source Urgent Update!

Thu 22 July at 16:14 with No Comments

Urgent Thermaltake Update!

De_Tuscan has been removed from the map rotation for tonights Thermaltake CounterStrike Source Qualifiers. This is due to a major bug in the map itself allowing players to shoot through multiple boxes at a time. This should not be possible and until an update is released or this issue is fixed the map will not be played during the Thermaltake Qualifiers. The map that you will be playing instead is Nuke for both Upper and Lower bracket games followed by Train for the Lower bracket and Dust2 for both Upper and Lower at 9pm.

Again we apologise for the inconvenience but these are issues that are out of Multiplays control. Good luck for tonights games and see you at 7pm BST!

Additional News: We have made it possible for a number of teams to reschedule their first games due to DSRack LAN. We are moving their games to Tuesday 13th July or Wednesday 14th dependant on each teams agreement. So the unfortunate news is that perhaps 3 or 4 teams will not have games tonight but will be asked to play them Tues/Weds next week. We have done this to allow as much access to the tournament as we can and enable as many teams to participate as physically possible. Hopefully this wont affect any teams too much.

Please all be in IRC as of 6:30pm BST so we can stick to schedule. All have your CS:S updated, everything you need to play ready as we will not be waiting except for extreme circumstances. Any questions can be asked/answered there.

Best of luck to all the teams entered. CU ON :)

Thermaltake Counter-Strike: Source Online Qualifiers Final Announcement!

Thu 01 July at 11:09 with No Comments

Thats right people, the time is drawing near. We are roughly 1 week away from the start of the online qualifications for Multiplays Insomnia40 Thermaltake CounterStrike Source Tournament. This announcement is being made to allow for an additional 48 hours to be added before signups close. Initially signups were due to close on the 30th June, yesterday, but we are extending them until Friday to allow for all teams to fill their rosters.

Now i suppose we should give you some incentive to sign up quickly. There were 48 open spaces and 16 invite spaces available, obviously the invite spaces are chosen by us however the other 48 are first come first serve. There are currently 81 teams signed up HOWEVER only 35 have full rosters! This means there are still 13 spaces available, however im pretty sure as soon as this announcement is posted they will go very quickly.

Something I would also like to bring to your attention. The tournament starts on Thursday 8th July, the day before DSRack LAN. Now there have been requests to make the games earlier to allow teams time to prepare for DSRack. Currently the games are scheduled at 7pm GMT and 8pm GMT, is this early enough? Currently the trail of thought is that we will use these times for the remainder of the tournament (the following 2 thursdays). Any feedback is welcome here.

Finally the confirmed invites so far: Reason Gaming, Power Gaming, FragMasters! Toxic, The Last Resort, RAGE.Enuzi, OX.Enermax, eXelon Gaming, VeryGames, DSRack, H2k. Final reminders have been sent to those outstanding. Should they be ignored we will move to the reserve invites.

Signups at: Tournament Signups!

See you there!

The Thermaltake Counter-Strike Source Cup Online Qualifiers Live!

Mon 14 June at 13:54 with No Comments

Over the weekend we opened up signups for the Thermaltake Counter-Strike Source Cup Online Qualifiers.

We will be running Online Qualifiers for the Thermaltake Counter-Strike Source Cup, allowing 4 teams the chance to win free entry into Insomnia40.

Signups are now open for the 64 team double elimination online qualifiers. 16 teams have been invited so there are only 48 available spaces that will be issued on a first come first serve basis. Signups will close when 48 full teams (5 members) have signed up or the signup end date is reached on the 30th June.

Instead of 1st and 2nd place going through to the elimination round as if they had finished first and 3rd and 4th going through to the elimination round as if they had finished second, we have decided that the 4 winning teams will simply be seeded 1 – 4 in the elimination bracket at insomnia40. We hope this change will increase the incentive to enter the online qualifier. We will also release the confirmed invited teams shortly.

To sign up head to tournaments.multiplay.co.uk/signups/ and use your normal Multiplay Login to register your team. All 5 members MUST be signed up to the team for it to be classed as a complete team so please ensure you all get signed up. This is looking set to be a great tournament with some great interest already so go get signed up!

Initial Prize Funds for Insomnia40 Confirmed!

Wed 19 May at 17:15 with 3 Comments

Today we are pleased to confirm our initial prize funds for the prize winning tournaments at Insomnia40.

First up we have a guaranteed £2,500 for the Thermaltake Counter-Strike Source Cup, with the potential to hit £5,000 at 80 teams entering the tournament! One of the changes we’ve made to the prize structure this event is a much more gradual increase in prize money over lots of different entrance figures, based on the feedback after the last event.

Secondly we have a minimum of £2,500 for Team Fortress 2, hitting a massive £5,000 at 64 teams. We are overjoyed by the response this event has seen to our commitment to the Team Fortress 2 community, and we’re pleased to be able to reward that commitment with a prize fund it deserves.

Up third we have Call of Duty 4 with a minimum of £1,000, with the same potential for a massive £5,000 at 80 teams! We’re pleased to continue the support of Call of Duty 4 with it’s resurgence within the Call of Duty community.

Last but not least for this announcement we’re pleased to announce a new game to the Insomnia Series, Starcraft 2! There will be a minimum of £250 up for grabs, scaling up to a massive £1,000 should it attract the interest of 80 players on the weekend.

We’ll have announcements about Bad Company 2 and Heroes of Newerth coming soon, as will tournament sign-ups. We will be locking the amount of teams who contribute to the prize triggers 2 weeks before the event starts, so make sure you’ve all got tickets and you’re ready to sign up!

COD4 final!

Sun 04 April at 14:34 with 1 Comment

The grand final between iQpad and Dignitas will take place on the main stage at 16:30 this afternoon, soon after the Team Fortress 2.

The top two seeds have so far placed as expected, with 3rd seed R!ve taking third. Will this final continue the trend of seeded teams finishing in the predicted placings, or can iQpad win 2 maps in a row for a shock victory?

Watch our live coverage to find out for yourself!

CSS Tournament – XPLICIT disqualified from the competition

Sun 04 April at 10:52 with No Comments

Team XPLICIT have been disqualified from the tournament due to 2 players being found with the snd_restart exploit in their configs. This particular command reduces the effectiveness of flashbangs when activated, giving the player a serious advantage.

We have a zero tolerance policy on cheating, and anyone else found with cheats or exploits on their system, whether they have been actively used or not, will be dealt with in a serious manner.

We urge all players to check their configs and systems to make sure they are clean.

The COD4 Tournament so far…. Consolation Final on the stage at 12!

Sun 04 April at 10:42 with No Comments

With the COD4 tournament in full swing we have seen some very close matches; VYE/Qpad lost out to Zedek (Divinity Gaming) 9 – 13 who went on to get knocked out by IQpad in the next round, whilst VKFX lost to Who? 11 – 13 only to get denied access to the next round by #Stimulus.

The lower final was a very close match between IQpad and #Stimulus – with scores being matched round for round. At 10 – 10 things looked set to head for overtime, but a 3 round push by IQpad saw off #Stimulus to secure their place in the Consolation Final!

The Consolation Final will be live on the stage at 12pm today! Will this be another replay of round 4 which saw R!ve snatch victory after 2 rounds of overtime? Well come down to stage and see for yourself, it promises to be a very close game!

The winner will go through to play Diginitas in the Grand Final at 5pm.

See you there!

Heroes of Newerth Tournament Progress

Sun 04 April at 10:39 with No Comments

With the first day completed and moving in to our second day of solid HoN games we are looking at some very competitive games in the double eliminations.

EPROX and DuperSuper had a hard fought game on stage at the beginning of the group stages yesterday. EPROX won out in the end with better hero picks giving them the advantage in the early lane phase. They quickly followed this through in to the pushing stage preventing DuperSuper from ever recovering from the early game damage.

Earlier this morning we have had Fracture pull off a very near upset against EPROX with the tide turning multiple times within the game. EPROX eventually won the game through much better farming but this was nearly matched by Fracture’s better team play.

This leaves the double elimination stage wide open with a few very strong unsseded teams looking to pull off some impressive upsets and take home some cash.

Final group standings are as follows with the top 4 teams from each group going through to the knockout stages.

Group A

  1. Unique
  2. 200+ APM
  3. Messioso’s Angels
  4. SuperHeroes In Training
  5. [TX!!3]

Group B

  1. EPROX
  2. DuperSuper
  3. Fracture
  4. [TX!!2]
  5. [TX!!1]

COD4 Group Stages Complete!

Sat 03 April at 13:31 with No Comments

Well the group stages are complete, with the top 4 teams from each group progressing into the double elimination round. Every team is allowed to lose once, which will put them in to a lower bracket where they will play other teams that have lost one game before. If a team loses here, they are out!

All teams check the schedule for your game times and the servers, they begin at 15:00 this afternoon (so in 30 minutes from this news post!)

Good luck to all teams going forward!

More live matches on the stage!

Sat 03 April at 13:15 with No Comments

COD4 Day 1 Finished!

Fri 02 April at 21:32 with No Comments

Well after a long day of long range nade spam, close cut knife rounds (see what I did there?) and wall banging, our first day of the COD4 tournament comes to a close.

We had some hardware issues early on but these appear to have been fixed and we look forward to a smoother day 2. Could all teams make sure you are ready to play your first match in the morning at 10:00 am, 3 more games will be played for the group stages and then we move on to the double elimination round. This will occur at 15:00 in the afternoon after a nice long lunch break.

Have a nice sleep, and we will see you all tomorrow morning!

COD4 Tournament information

Fri 02 April at 19:44 with No Comments

The group stages are under way, and some great games of COD4 are being played right now!

We just wanted to inform everyone that the TOP 4 will be proceeding to the double elimination stages, not the top 2 as previously stated at the briefing. This is because of the number of teams that finally signed for the tournament and we want to give more teams extra games to play.

Multiplay Ultimate Gamer (It’s not April fools, honest)

Tue 30 March at 14:51 with No Comments

With i39 looming large on the horizon this week, we are officially in mere territory. Many teams have been practicing their respective games, in anticipation of competing for a chance of the huge prize pot on offer at the event. There is however, one competition which has yet to be unveiled. One so challenging, so tough, so bizarre, that it surpasses every other tournament at i39 in its infinite awesomeness. I am talking of course, about the Multiplay Ultimate Gamer.

The concept is simple. You’re going to have a number of chances over the weekend to become a Multiplay Ultimate Gamer. Each competition will take around 1 hour and we’ll be posting the schedule on Friday, so don’t worry about it taking up your whole weekend.

To get an idea of what a becoming a Multiplay Ultimate Gamer will involve, please continue reading!

1. Trivia of doom – You’d better know your gaming as we’re going to whittle you down to 8 participants pretty sharpish
2. PC Round – No game is off limits here, so don’t think we’re going to stick to mainstream games. Armagetron anyone?
3. Xbox Speed Round – This is a head to head race to the finish across five different games. Be ready to learn fast and don’t think you can practice this, we’ll be changing it up over the weekend.
4. Profit! – No really, you’ve just won a prize!
5. Don’t think it ends there though. Step 5 is the bonus round where we’ve invited special guests to bring a game of their choice for you to challenge them at. Here’s where the mega prizes are, courtesy of the special guests. If the challenger loses? Rollover!

Warning: The above may well change depending how nice we’re feeling on the day.

In addition to the main competitions, we’ll also be running a variety of on the spot challenges, Street Fighter IV will return, there’ll be plenty of freeplay and have you ever seen someone DJ whilst skateboarding? Didn’t think so.

We’ll keep the i-Series page busy with what’s going on and don’t forget we will be releasing the schedule on Friday!

Halo 3 Tournament Cancelled

Mon 08 March at 14:32 with No Comments

It is with regret we announce the cancellation of the Halo 3 tournament at i39. It seems for a variety of reasons there just isn’t the uptake we have seen previously and running a prize winning tournament for the game just isn’t viable.

Instead, we will be using the resources from that tournament to go toward an exciting new feature in the exhibition hall which is due to be announced shortly.

Looking ahead, we will be liaising with the XBOX communities to see how we can improve things for the future, such as the i40 tournament line-up. We also still have other tournaments being discussed with sponsors so the line-up posted right now is likely to not be the final tournament list.

For people who were signed up to the Halo3 section of the event or tournament we will be offering a full refund due to this cancellation. If you wish to cancel your ticket please get in touch with us through our support site.

Initial i39 Prize Tournaments Announced!

Mon 18 January at 09:00 with 5 Comments

Today we are ready to announce the first set of tournaments we will be running at the first i-Series of this year, i39. We have some old regulars, something new, and the return of an i-series favourite!

Counter-Strike Source (PC)
First up, for the PC we are pleased to announce another prize winning Counter-Strike Source tournament, held for the 16th event in a row! We have a guaranteed £2,500 up to grabs, and we’re currently seeking funding from other sources to try and increase this to as high as possible. Should we see 96 teams commit to and enter the tournament, we’ll have a massive £5,000 up for grabs!

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare (PC)
Secondly we’re proud to announce the return of the Call of Duty 4 prize winning tournament for i39. We’re committing a minimum of £2,500, with the potential for a massive £5,000 should we get 96 teams! As with CS:S and our other prize winning tournaments, we’re strongly seeking funding from other avenues and parties to help us make this tournament the huge return that this game deserves.

Heroes of Newerth (PC)
Third up for the PC, we have a new game for the i-Series; Heroes of Newerth! Our i39 tournament will be the highest prize funded HON tournament ever in the world to date! One of the fastest growing communities we’ve ever experienced, we’re very excited about Heroes of Newerth and we’re committing a minimum of £1,000 to a prize winning tournament! Should 48 teams sign up, the prize fund will hit £2,500, and should 96 teams up we’ll be giving away a huge sum of £5,000!

Team Fortress (PC)
Last but not least for the PC, we have our Team Fortress 2 tournament, with at least £1,500 increasing up to a massive £5,000! After the community rallied behind the tournament run at i38, we’re committing once again for a minimum guaranteed cash prize. Should 48 teams sign up, the prize fund will hit £2,500, and should 96 teams up we’ll be giving away a huge sum of £5,000!

Halo 3: ODST (Xbox 360)
For the Xbox 360 we’ve got Halo 3: ODST, now a staple of i-Series tournaments. There is a confirmed minimum of £1,500 up for grabs, increasing should the community support the tournament and attend in large numbers. Should 48 teams sign up, the prize fund will hit £2,500, and should 96 teams up we’ll be providing a huge sum of £5,000!

Responding to feedback from i38, our Xbox 360 tournaments will currently be limited to BYOX entrants only, and players will need to bring their own copies of the games used in the tournaments. We will be creating a new Turn up and Play ticket for our Xbox 360 tournaments in the near future. This will be in place in plenty of time ready for i39, and we’re also looking into running more Xbox 360 tournaments for i39.

Just to recap, here’s what we’ve got ready for i39 in this first release:
- a minimum of £2,500 for Counter-strike: Source on the PC
- a minimum of £2,500 for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on the PC
- a minimum of £1,500 for Team Fortress 2 on the PC
- a minimum of £1,000 for Heroes of Newerth on the PC
- a minimum of £1,500 for Halo 3 ODST on the Xbox 360

Going live now is the biggest game yet of the i38 TF2 Tournament. First seed Power Gaming will take on second seed Team YoYoTech on cp_Badlands, in what is sure to be a great contest. Both sides have lots to prove and are some of the best teams within the game, but both also have weaknesses due to fairly recent lineup changes.

Players to watch:

YYT – Byte and numlocked
Both of these guys are great players, but are playing in a slightly different environment

Activision at i38

Sat 14 November at 14:14 with No Comments

Activision are the Lead Sponsor for i38, bringing the hottest game of the year; Modern Warfare 2.

They have the largest exhibition stand at the event, with MW2 brought to you on 24 PC’s, as well as 24 Xbox 360′s with 6 Xbox pods thrown in for good measure.

I don’t think we have ever had this many systems on an Exhibitor’s stand before, giving everyone at i38 an excellent opportunity to get hands on before you buy the game.

On top of all this, Activision are sponsoring a tournament for both platforms, with a £1,000 prize fund for each tournament. These tournaments are kicking off now and we will have latter stages played on their stand for people to watch. The Grand Finals will of course be on the main stage and streamed to the Internet to allow people not at the event to tune into the World’s first MW2 tournament.

Many thanks to Activision for their massive support for i38.

  • Players throw the dodgeballs at the competing team attempting to get them “out.”
  • A player hit with a dodgeball is “out,” and leaves the court permanently.
  • If a player catches a thrown dodgeball, the thrower is “out.”
  • Once all members of a team are “out,” the remaining team wins.

The Dodgeball tournament will start promptly at 5pm on Sunday, with practice times on Friday between 5pm and 6pm. All of this will take place in the main marquee just outisde the main grandstand.

CSS Tournament News – Intermediate & Lower Results

Sun 09 August at 15:52 with No Comments

Good Afternoon everyone,

Hope everyone is enjoying today, the CS:S Tournament comes to a close later tonight, but we still have more action on the way, with the Prize Winning Grand Final to take place at 6pm between TCM (who knocked out Dignitas in an epic Overtime thriller), and Reason Gaming (the current i-Series Champions), this takes place on the stage in Hall 1 at 6pm. However whilst the action for that has simmered for a 3 hour break, the Intermediate & Lower Tournaments have been racing away with some twists and turns, and general excitement. In the Intermediate Tournament, Iron Munkys lined up against a #Think Gaming that they faced earlier on, and beat 16 – 11 on de_inferno, however after beating Unique eSports, they went on to face Iron Munkys again, the elimination of maps began, and that left de_train & de_contra. The match got underway with both sides exchanging rounds, however Iron Munkys ran out eventual winners on de_train by 16 – 9. That earnt them their win in the Intermediate Tournament and a prize of a crate of Energy Drinks!!

In the Lower Tournament, Ministry Of Darkness Team 5Stars went undefeated in the upper bracket, and managed to win every match without fail, they faced a determined team, named .victum who wanted to claim some revenge against MOD 5stars for earlier beating them on de_inferno 16 – 13 in which proved a close match, too close for comfort, with MOD 5Star taking it on the 2nd to last round. They both eliminated the maps, and were left with de_nuke & de_inferno. On de_nuke, MOD 5star looked incredibly comfortable by taking a 11 – 4 lead as CT’s and then took the pistol round in the 2nd half, however, they went on to lose 12 rounds in a row, and could never find their feet as Terrorists. The second map proved even more damaging for the MOD lads, when they got battered as T’s 13 – 2 by a really determined .victum side. In the second half, MOD failed to make an impact and eventually lost 16 – 4. Team .victum win a crate of energy drinks as winners of the lower tournament.

Please stay tuned for the Grand Final of the CS:S Tournament, it will be on SourceTV  85.236.109.36:28015 & 85.236.109.36:27015 plus on the QuadV streams aswell. Later on tonight the CS:S Admins will be putting up 3 or 4 40man servers, so that teams can play the traditional 20v20 madness on a Sunday Night, Rasta have apparently got teams ready in line to take them on! So be prepared for some more carnage with beers and Counter Strike Source!!

Thanks

“We have been listening to the community on what further tournaments they wish to participate in at the event. We expect these tournaments to be both popular and entertaining for the event. Battlefield 2 was a much requested tournament that we felt we could not ignore. Both Peggle and Plants vs Zombies should provide attendees with competition more on the light hearted side. This shows our commitment to make tournaments more accessible and provides appeal to the masses.”

Signups for these tournaments will open tomorrow.

Changes to Prize Ceremonies

Tue 14 July at 10:21 with No Comments

Multiplay will be making some important changes to the way prizes are given out, and the overall structure of the Prize giving Ceremony. Previously Multiplay have held the Prize giving Ceremonies on the Monday, forcing winners to stay till the end to receive their rewards. This all changes from i37, as Multiplay will be holding the Prize Ceremonies at the end of each day. This means that should you win the Call of Duty 4 Final on the Sunday Afternoon, you will need to attend the Sunday night Prize Ceremony.

Managing Director Craig Fletcher had the following to say:

“We have listened to the concerns of teams attending our events, some of whom find it difficult to stay for a Monday afternoon presentation ceremony. We expect the change to multiple prize ceremonies to further increase the appeal of the i-Series to international teams. This in turn should help grow the spectator audience, both at the event and online. This demonstrates Multiplay’s continuing commitment to help grow e-sports, both in the UK and beyond.”

In addition to the above, the final tournament schedules will be announced within the next week, allowing customers to see for the first time when they will be playing, and allow them to plan their weekends more efficiently. Whilst they will not know who they are playing until signups close, teams will at least know when matches will be taking place.

Street Fighter IV elevated to prize tournament

Thu 02 July at 10:49 with No Comments

We are pleased to announce that the Street Fighter IV (XBox 360) tournament has been elevated from a fun tournament to a Prize winning tournament! This will make i37 the first prize winning tournament for one of the biggest fighting games of this year.

The tournament will take place on Saturday 8th August in the M Festival hall. Both participants of i37 and M Festival visitors will be able to take part in the tournament which will be held in the “turn up and play” area of the hall. This means all you have to bring is yourself, then signup for the tournament and use our machines to take part! Alongside this tournament in the same area will be the WCG Virtua Fighter 5 tournament, competitors will be able to enter both so not only will you be able to win yourself some money – you could also win a trip to China to represent the UK in Virtua Fighter 5 at the World Cyber Games final in Chengdu.

An initial £200 will be awarded to the winner of Street Fighter IV, with £100 going to the runner up, a Further £50 will be given to the 3rd placed competitor. These prize funds are not yet cast in stone but are guaranteed. We will substantially increase this figure if signups prove popular! To give you an idea of the increases we are looking at making the total prize fund increasing to £500 should we get 64 signups, £1000 should we hit 128+ signups. So make sure you get all your friends involved!

To signup for this tournament you will need an M Festival day pass which you can book via our M Festival website Normally we would require customers to have a full weekend pass to enter tournaments but as this is our first event support Street Fighter in a Prize funded capacity we have reduced this to just a day pass. Make sure you dont miss out on what could be the fighting game tournament of the year!

Signups will open tomorrow (Friday 3rd July 2009) via our i-Series website.

Schedule Change

Sat 11 April at 10:19 with No Comments

We will be moving the start time of the Company of Heroes tournament to 11:30am on Sunday the 12th. The change is being made in a move to get more teams and players involved in the tournament due to conflicts with previous tournaments that are potentially stopping people from signing up to the Company of Heroes tournament.

If you have any problems or want a chat come and see Kaution at seat AF-24 (at the end next to the centre walkway) If I am not at my desk please go to the Tournament help desk so someone can track me down for you.

Tournament Signups Open

Thu 08 January at 17:55 with 5 Comments

With the announcement of the Call of Duty 4 tournament obtaining prize money, we are now opening sign ups for EA’s £10,000 FIFA 09 Cup and our own £5,000 Counter Strike: Source, £2,500 Call of Duty 4 and £2,500 Halo 3 competitions.

For all tournaments players must sign up and pay for i36 before they will be able to sign up for their tournament. It is also recommended that any players wishing to enter a tournament read the i-Series Code of Conduct.

Full rulesets will be made available by 16:00 on Monday 23rd February for all games except Call of Duty 4, which will have a ruleset released about a week after a decision is made to use Promod 4 or DAMN:EU as the tournament mod for the competition. Maplists will be compiled and released by 16:00 on Monday 9th February.

Good luck to all teams and players entering!

CoD:WaW now CoD4

Thu 08 January at 11:16 with 36 Comments

Although this announcement arrives delayed due to the holiday period we would like to announce that CoD:WaW will not feature at i36 in April. After listening to feedback from the community we will be replacing it with Call of Duty 4 at the current prize fund of £2,500.

As regards to which mod to use, there has been no decision made yet. We will be watching carefully to see how the competitive community reacts between DAMN:EU and Promod 4 and base our decision based on that feedback.

We hope the community can pull together and not be divided over mods so that Cod4′s longevity as a competitive game can be kept at a position where it’s viable for us to support it as one of the headline tournaments at the i-Series for years to come.

Tue 21 July at 15:54 with No Comments

SouthPeak Games have become the latest exhibitor to confirm their attendance at Multiplays i37 / M Festival Event. Details are being kept under wraps but we can reveal SouthPeak Games will be showcasing their new first person shooter, Section 8.

If you have been living under a rock for the past year why not check out the following trailers and behind the scenes video footage of the game on Fileplay:

  • Developers Diary
  • Game Trailer 1
  • Game Trailer 2
  • Developed by TimeGate Studios, Section 8 is an epic multiplayer FPS that gives players unprecedented strategic control over the battlefield, employing tactical assets and on-demand vehicle deliveries to dynamically alter the flow of combat. Set in the distant future when humanity is facing a growing insurrection among its colonies, Earth dispatches the elite 8th Armoured Infantry to turn the tide.

Utilising advanced powered armour suits, these volunteers are the only ones crazy enough to smash through enemy defences and drop directly into the battlefield from 15,000 feet. Their bravery earned them the nickname “Section 8”, an old military regulation where soldiers were classed as unfit for duty due to mental instability.

    Features

  • Play in single player, online multiplayer or Instant Action on all of the multiplayer maps against robust and competitive AI.
  • No more classes, completely customise the Loadouts of weapons, gear, and passive module upgrades for your powered armour suit.
  • Burn-In Spawning deploys from dropships 15,000 feet above the battlefield so you can choose anywhere on the map to land.
  • Dynamic Combat Missions (DCMs) offer a robust player-driven objective system, allowing for dynamically generated missions during the course of combat.
  • Vehicle and Deployable Requisitions can be delivered anywhere on the map.
